Slightly chubby and whimsical, this charming set maintains the dignity due to the Nativity. This hand painted nativity is made in Colombia by a group of 13 families who are supported almost entirely by the sale of their lovingly crafted religious moldings made from ceramic and wood paste, a technique originating in Italy. If the whimsical style is familiar to you it is because the Nativity set was designed by internationally acclaimed sculptor Fernando Botero, an artist known for his innovative and instantly recognizable work of his larger than life everyday subjects. As hand made items, slight variations in colors are possible, making each one truly one of a kind. The figures are solid and stand approximately 3 1/2 inches tall.
